Sumba
My wife and I spent 2 weeks riding a motorcycle across Sumba, one of the quieter, less-visited islands in Indonesia. No fixer, no crew, just a camera bag and whatever we came across.
That meant shooting fast and adapting constantly. Wild horses on an empty beach one afternoon, water buffalo wading through rice paddies the next. None of it was staged or scheduled, I had to be ready for it, which is its own kind of discipline.
The island itself does a lot of the visual work, that raw, sun-bleached landscape, the colour of the water, the pace of life outside a tourist route. My job was mostly to stay out of the way of it: handheld where the terrain demanded it, locked off where the light was doing something worth sitting still for.
This one's as much a travel document as a love letter, proof that some of my favourite work happens with no brief, no client, and no idea what's about to ride past.
